My name is Julia Lee, a Maryland and DC licensed clinical social worker and solo practitioner specializing in geriatric care management. I have over 20 years of experience spanning care management, medical and psychiatric social work, and managed care insurance reviews. I live in the DC area and my goal is to help aging people in my community to optimize their quality of life. I will be your trusted guide, problem solver, and advocate.
I graduated from Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and Washington University in St. Louis with a Masters in Social Work (MSW) in mental health and family systems. In addition to my direct clinical work, I stay current in the field of aging by completing continuing education courses every year covering topics such as dementia, family issues, ethics, and diversity.
I will guide you through complex care decisions with clarity and kindness. Aging well isn't just about receiving care. It's also about being seen, supported, and empowered.
Similar to how an attorney is your advisor for legal matters, a geriatric care manager is your navigator and advocate when tackling the complex issues of aging. Common situations that prompt clients or families to contact me include:
Medical appointments and medications have become overwhelming and confusing. I coordinate providers, attend appointments with you, and help organize your medications.Â
Family members live far away or life responsibilities interfere with monitoring and assisting with medical, social, and caregiving needs. I make regular home visits, coordinate home care services, and communicate updates.
Caregivers can become burned out and need support and guidance. We will discuss strategies for stress management together and identify available resources.
A recent medical crisis or health problem has created an overly burdensome task list, making it impossible to "catch up" with bills and appointments while trying to recover. In addition to monitoring for wellness, I advocate for you with doctors and insurance, schedule appointments, coordinate referrals for home health, and order durable medical equipment.
Life feels too complicated and there are many concerns that require attention - such as questions about home safety, hiring a companion or aide, deciding whether to move, or family conflicts that are interfering with an aging parent's care. We establish a care plan to tackle each issue.
If you find yourself in these or other difficult aging-related situations, I can help. We can discuss your situation and questions during a free 20 minute consultation.
